[Army Lists] The Kadavah Instigation
Joy, rapture and bliss beyond measure: there's a gaming group down the valley from me and it meets on Saturday afternoons. Within those sacred hours when the stars are right, and the ancient rite of Trafnidiaeth Cymru can be enacted!
This bears investigation, thus Garbutt and I are to investigate - and I'm bringing my shiny new Necrons. Ahead of the inevitable report, here's a word or several about what's in my box.

All this represents the first emergence of the Kadavah Dynasty into Sector Maledicta - an expeditionary force without much in the way of honour guard or heavy gear about it. We are assuming that my original Necron army, in Charnovokh colours, failed to make their escape from Tenebris Spherae at the tail end of the forty-first millennium, and these are an entirely discrete dynasty who have strayed into the path of Talassar Kaine's vendetta. Perhaps there is some legacy that they've inherited along with it: who can, as yet, say?
At present, the plan is to pop that Overlord into the Warrior unit, for holding objectives with maximum Reanimation Protocol potential, and the Royal Warden into the Immortals, for taking objectives and then holding them. Small units of Scarabs, Flayed Ones and Tomb Blades are there to corral, control and contest. Finally, there are my large distracting sons: the Skorpekhs (I vaguely think two small units rather than one big one might be worth a go here, but Stratagems go further on big units and it's not like I have a Detachment rule that lets me run all my units hot like Dark Pacts does) and supporting Triarch Stalker.
One might say I should have gone for the heat ray on the Stalker, for the anti-tank and torrent flexibility, and one would in all honesty be correct in this - all I can say is gauss blindness set in with this first thousand points. At least there are plenty of Lethal Hits on the table, and I know Garbutt's only bringing the one vehicle. Should be... something resembling balanced.
Actually you probably made the right choice with the gauss cannon - the heat ray's flexibility is a big advantage in large scale actions with a solid base of support behind it, but for a long-range expeditionary mission like this you really want commonality of parts and energy sources to make the most of limited supply lines, especially since there's no points left over for taking additional logistics support options.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm more curious about looking at giving that Warden a more formidable chopping implement in case they and the Immortals need to clear and take an objective the hard way, and given that my spies inform me weapon upgrades are free in 10th, but maybe rooting stubborn pockets out up close is less of a thing in that game in general.
Yes and no – the need to clear a point in melee is occasionally a thing, especially when Assault Intercessors are involved, but the Royal Warden is alas only configurable for range. The Lord has the flexibility, and another Resurrection Orb, but at a premium price. In the event of close quarters combat the Skorpekh will be assigned to clearance duty with the Immortals to follow up.
DeleteGood point re. weapons. The Tomb Blades and their assortment of doohickeys are already taking up valuable reanimation processor time, after all.
