No point burying, the lede, is there? |
I've not exactly been avoiding painting up the Shard of Mag'ladroth, the violent master of matter. I just didn't want to start painting it until I had a clear vision, y'know? For all that it was effectively free, it's a big sexy kit and I didn't want to muck about and find out.
Last week, I saw a gold body/black wings while scrollin' on t'Reddit, and thought: that could work. Also, the Supreme Phaerekh, Provider of Lamps, found a lightbox in a local charity shop for all of a fiver, so I could finally take a decent-ish photo of the damn thing. The stars, after six months, were right.
The Canoptek doodad on its back, the wings and the helmet are all done in my standard Necron colours – all the bits that they use to control the wounded, murdered godling.
All that's reinforced by there being no purple at all on the C'tan itself. I use violet armour plates to indicate rank, and this thing is outranked by the scarab on its back. Similarly, the black of the weapon – utterly unadorned by conduits, cables or circuits to glow – suggests pure blackstone, with no tech necessary to empower it.
The colder colours of the body, lightning and stone are outside my normal palette, giving the whole a somewhat eldritch, weird, out of place vibe. If I'd used Tesseract Glow it'd be too warm, too bright, and too distracting. It's the golden body I want you to see, and then the dull helm and wings in the context of that.
